How is your self‑esteem
affecting your life?

Self‑esteem means the value or worth you place on yourself as a person, your overall opinion of yourself.

Healthy self-esteem entails thinking about yourself in a balanced way. With a healthy self‑esteem you are able to recognise your weaknesses, make a decision on whether you would like to change these, as well as being able to acknowledge and celebrate your strengths and successes.

Research findings also support the view that having a healthy self‑esteem (versus low self‑esteem) has numerous positive consequences, including better social relationships, more success at work, better mental health, improved physical health, and less antisocial behaviour.

Let’s dive into some
course concepts

In this course, you’ll learn essential concepts and techniques that therapists use in their sessions, giving you the tools to work on your self-esteem.

By understanding these ideas, you’ll be able to apply them to your own personal growth and start becoming your own therapist, guiding yourself through the process of self-reflection and positive change.

Core Beliefs

Core beliefs are your most central ideas about yourself, others, and the world.

Core beliefs act as a lens through which every situation and life experience is seen.

People with different core beliefs might be in the same situation, but think, feel, and behave very differently. Even if a core belief is inaccurate, it still shapes how you see the world. People are not born with core beliefs—they are learned and usually develop in childhood, or during stressful or traumatic periods in adulthood.

Negative core beliefs tend to be rigid and long-standing however, they can be changed, so that you live a rewarding and fulfilling life!

Rules for living

Rules for living are your guidelines, policies or strategies for getting by.

They are standards that you hold for yourself and others. They are reflective of your own values. They often develop through childhood experiences, you may learn them from others around you.

Holding rules and assumptions is part of being human and we all hold them in some way or another. Flexible rules are more like guides that reflect your values. They can help guide your behaviours towards doing the things that are important to you. They can also help you to establish boundaries with others or promote healthy communication based on your wants/needs.

Rules become problematic when they are rigid, non-flexible and strictly held. Strictly held rules don’t allow space for compassion, or for taking into account the human nature of day-to-day life circumstances. They are often black and white and the grey areas can be overlooked.

Self-critical thoughts

Self-critical thoughts occur when you criticize, evaluate, and judge yourself negatively, or put yourself down.

As a result of self-critical thoughts people can often feel down, sad and demotivated, entering a vicious cycle, from which at times can be hard to escape.

These thoughts might be triggered by specific situations, like not meeting personal expectations or comparing yourself to others, and can lead to feelings of guilt or shame. Over time, they can affect not only your self-esteem but also your overall sense of well-being. Recognizing these thoughts is the first step toward breaking the cycle and replacing them with more balanced, constructive ones.

Get closer to living a meaningful life

Look at your level of your self-esteem, have the space to be reflective and make connections between your own past and present.

Within the course you are going to have the space to gain an in-depth insight into your core beliefs, rules for living, and self-critical thoughts. Words of gratitude from those I’ve helped

D.B.

Taking into account that I’m dyslexic, the explanations of different processes and concepts were very thorough. Between the sessions I never felt on my own, I have put into practice the exercises and was able to see their immediate effect.

Even when we didn’t process with EMDR, just through talking I have been able to find solutions. I have found the appointments more beneficial than being on the antidepressants and looked forward to them. I felt listened to and never disregarded. Often it felt like I was talking to friend who has all the answers.

Szeri has a nice warm personality and there has been not one appointment where I got nothing out of it.

I don’t know where I would be without the sessions, long-term they have saved my life.

A hard journey has been made easy by Szeri.

S.B.

A huge thank you to you for all your help with our daughter, for giving her the tools and the strength to get through each hour and day.

You have made such a positive impact to her life and ours. Happy for the feedback to be used, if it can in anyway help anyone else get through day to day life.

R.T.

An overwhelmingly positive experience.

Szeri has been very knowledgeable and explained things very well.

D.B.

Szeri honestly cared and was concerned, and I have not been judged at all.

B.H.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Szeri for a number of years and in that time, she has provided me with effective strategies and how to work on certain areas that I bring to our sessions. Szeri is warm, extremely knowledgable in her field and wants only the best for you as a client.

I cannot recommend Szeri enough and should I need further support in the future, I wouldn’t hesitate to contact her.

S.W.

Thank you for the incredible impact you’ve had on me and my mental health journey, your guidance, empathy, and unwavering support has been one of, if not the most important part in helping me navigate and overcome the challenges I face. ...The tools you've shared with me have become invaluable resources, enabling me to navigate those moments where sometimes I feel like the black dog won’t go away!

I want you to know that your work extends far beyond the screen. I really wish I could explain in words the impact you've had on my mental health has touched every aspect of my life, improving my relationships, my work, and my overall sense of fulfilment.

I am truly grateful.

Thank you for being more than a therapist; thank you for being a guide, a confidant, and a source of strength. Your contribution to my life is immeasurable, and I am fortunate to have had you by my side.
